Biography
Anja Papa was born in 1994 in Bergisch Gladbach (Germany). She received her MA in Piano and Voice from the Academy of Arts and Culture in Osijek. She was awarded the Dean's Award in 2016 and the Rector's Award in 2017 for artistic and studying achievements during her studies.
She has performed at national and international singing competitions. In the category of solo singers under 15, she won the 3rd prize at the International Musical Eisteddfod in Llangollen (UK), 2nd prize in the category of female voices in 2014 at the 1st international competition of solo singers Vera Kovač Vitkai in Novi Sad. She won the 2nd prize at the Lav Mirski International Singing Competition in Osijek in 2015, and the 1st prize at the 7th Lav Mirski International Singing Competition in the 2019 Opera Ensembles category.
She has been performing at concerts and in operas in Croatia and abroad as an opera, choir, and concert soloist. She has been participating in festivals in Croatia and abroad (Osijek, Hvar, Novi Sad, Bitola, Skopje, Štip, Kotor, Sarajevo, Belgrade, etc.).
In 2015, she successfully debuted in the role of Despina in opera Così fan Tutte, which was premiered by the Opera Pannonica ensemble at the Osijek Summer of Culture (conductor: Balázs Kocsár). In 2016, she performed with the opera ensemble Opera Pannonica in the role of Gianette in G. Donizetti's opera L'elisir d'amore in Grožnjan, Umag, Osijek, Pécs, Split and Hvar (conductor Balázs Kocsár). In the role of Susanne in Mozart's opera Le Nozze di Figaro, she performed in 2017 with the same ensemble in Grožnjan and Buje, and in 2019 in the role of Pamina in Mozart's opera The Magic Flute (conductor Balázs Kocsár) in Pécs, Bale, and Grožnjan. In Pécs and Grožnjan, she performed the role of Nella in Puccini's opera Gianni Schicchi and the role of Musette in the opera La bohème.
She has been professionally and artistically active at the Institute of Choral Music Polifonija in Osijek as a conductor of the Osijek Zumbići Choir, the Brevis Children's Choir, and the Children's Opera Choir. As the conductor of the Children's Choir Brevis (under the name Children's Choir GRM Polifonija Osijek), she won the 1st prize and 1st place in 2017 at the national competition of choirs in Varaždin. She prepared the Children's Opera Choir in 2014 for the performance of the opera La Bohème, Tosca (2015), and Carmen (2018) in cooperation with the Croatian National Theatre in Osijek.
She took part in the voice masterclass at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg with prof. Michèle Creider in 2018 and in 2020 with prof. Claudiae Visca at the Youngmasters International Voice Masterclass in Samobor.
She has been actively taking part in professional and scientific conferences, has also prepared and conducted professional workshops and published papers.
