Biography
Mirjana Matic was born in Valjevo, Serbia. She started her musical education with the piano which she continued even until her graduation from high school. After receiving her diploma from the Academy of Arts in Újvidék (Novi Sad), she started another bachelor and master’s programme at the Department of Vocal Studies (opera singing) at the Faculty of Arts in Belgrade in the class of Professor Nikola Kitanovski. At the moment, she is enrolled in a Ph.D. programme.
The Department of Vocal Studies awarded Mirjana Matic for the successful opera and concert performances during her master’s programme with the prize "Biserka Cvejic". She won the special prize at the International Competition "Nikola Cvejic" in Árpatarló (Ruma) at which the president of the jury was the renowned Serbian soprano Radmila Bakocevic.
During her master’s degree, she debuted in the role of Pavle in the Serbian opera The Dusk composed by Stevan Hristic in the Opera & Theatre "Madlenianum" in Belgrade. After a few months, she sang for the first time the role of Adriana in Cilea's Adriana Lecouvreur in Belgrade and in the role of Leonora in Verdi's Il Trovatore at the National Theatre in Belgrade. This year, she has debuted in the role of Hanna in the operetta The merry widow at the Opera & Theatre “Madlenianum”.
Besides her activity in opera performances, Mirjana has also s vivid presence in concerts with piano and orchestra accompaniment where she performed a wide repertoire of arias by among others Verdi, Donizetti, Bizet, Leoncavallo, Charpentier, and Puccini.
